I don’t know about you, but New Year’s resolutions aren’t really my thing. If I have a goal that I’m looking to accomplish, I don’t wait until January 1 to get started – I get my game plan together and strike while the iron is hot!

Despite my feeling on resolutions, my interest peaked when I learned of a different kind of resolution that some adopt for the new year. Instead of placing the focus around a specific goal, instead you choose a word that becomes your mantra for the entire year. Throughout the year, you look to your word to help guide your actions and decisions. This word can be anything you want it to be, as long as it speaks to you.

For example, I have a friend who chose the word “yes” in 2019. The idea behind this word was to become more committed and involved in her social groups, and boy, did she ever! She made less excuses to get involved and threw herself into many commitments that she hadn’t given a thought to before. She became involved in her kids’ school and took on leadership roles in her neighborhood and church groups. At the end of the year, she was able to look back on 2019 with a sense of purpose because of the new roles she had taken on.

My word for 2022 is “persevere.” I’ve taken on a new role of “entrepreneur” and I am still learning to balance my other roles of “daughter”, “sister and manager” with the added stress of COVID19. In a nutshell, “persevere” is my word because I know there will be hard days and obstacles ahead, but I know that I can look to this word for inspiration and encouragement with whatever the task is at hand. I have this word strategically placed around my home and office to help remind me of that!

So what’s your word for 2022?

Share it with us on our Facebook or Twitter pages and share it with your coworkers and family. Who knows – you may end up inspiring someone to come up with their word for the year!
